Steve Smith and Yelena Smith
Founders
In 2016, Steve founded Custom Valley Stone to provide high-quality stonework to the Shenandoah Valley. Prior to founding his company, Steve worked with Espina Stone Company on many James Madison University Blue Stone projects under his friend and mentor, Jose Rey. Yelena holds things together. She handles appointments and administrative tasks and keeps us on track - from making sure the vehicle gets maintenance to laying stone. She can do it all as far as the projects and packs a great lunch!
I knew at a very young age that I had an extraordinary fascination with rocks. As a kid, I began collecting and hunting for crystals, arrowheads, minerals, and stones. By the time I was a teenager, my collection had grown so big that my grandmother started to buy me display cabinets so I could show off my vast accumulation of rocks. Eventually, this spilled over into my career when I came across the Espina Stone Company and met a wonderful man named Jose Rey.

While working at Espina Stone Company, I was mentored on how to use stone for both structure and beauty. This work paved the way for me to start my own company, Custom Valley Stone. Our mission is to bring high-quality custom stonework to commercial and residential buildings throughout the Shenandoah Valley. Each day we remain passionate about creating long-lasting beauty in our clients’ homes and businesses.

When Steve and Yelena are not working, they enjoy spending time with their two children, Marjorie and Victor. They also enjoy the sleepy antics of their Cat, QTip, and their Rabbit, Cotton Ball.
